I like to use elevated options for my food bowls I feel like digestion is better and they overall seem more interested in food that is elevated in comparison to the food bowls that are placed on the floor. I don't do elevated stands for my water bowls because I prefer ceramic bowls for water (it stays so much cleaner,) and because they love to dig in the water bowls. I prefer heavy ceramic water bowls which are difficult to find elevated stands for. Steel bowls are so light that they tend to tip over when they dig in the water.

With scratchers a minimum of 2 per regularly visited room and 3 around all furniture is how I've raised all of my cats and have had minimum issues with any of my cats scratching furniture. Multiple scratching pads in various sizes and shapes properly placed in the home should help reduce unwanted bad habits. When furniture does get scratched immediately pick the kitty up say “no” and redirect the kitties attention to the scratching post/pad/tree.
